Tracking all across Europe
From the first to the last mile, a completely visible truck transport
KTM Shipping AS is a logistic company strategically based at the Haugesund cargo terminal. They provide logistic solutions ranging from warehousing, to full loads. With strategic partnerships in the region and its own fleet of transport they cover the logistic needs for any type of cargo.
The region produces very valuable assets that must be delivered on time. These range from offshore, oil & gas and maritime equipment, technology solutions, and perishables. Those transports are part of the supply chain that ensures their customers’ inventory, supplies and the completion of projects are on schedule. The goods must be timely transported and must arrive in good conditions. The delivery must be prompt, and the cargo must arrive in good condition.
Despite their best efforts, it was still challenging to know exactly where the cargo was while en route. There was no reliable source of automated information. Normally, customers and companies send manual requests of updates, namely emails and phone calls. This back- and- forth communication could take anywhere between a few hours to some days, until the person handling the transport at that moment is located and shares the status. The lack of visibility requires that a lot of effort is devoted to guesswork and uncertain planning. Not knowing where the cargo is can often lead to additional freight expenses and delays. Namely when trying to coordinate the next steps, like handovers, border crossings and intermodal exchanges with outdated information
An eShell was placed together with the rest of the cargo in the truck. Since the very first mile, KTM was 2 clicks away from the actual location of the transport. This service was not only nice to have, but it soon proved relevant. In the last mile of the transport, the truck got stuck after crossing the Turkish border. The receiver of the cargo believed that the transport was in customs and missing some documents, so they reached out to KTM for an update. They were trying to be proactive and helpful. If it wasn’t for Shellock, the team at KTM would have had to call each of the participants in this delivery asking for an update, which means that these parties would have had to request information and check in their systems for the records of this transport, before getting back to KTM and updating the receiver.
In 10 seconds they cleared up the situation. Shellock enabled KTM to save 2 days of wait and guesswork. Our solution allowed them to be more effective internally, measuring an ROI higher than 100%. This freed up time in everyones’ work schedules. The team at KTM as well as the receivers were extremely satisfied with the quick and reliable access to information, and the risks of misinterpretations and incurring additional costs were minimized.
When this shipmen twas completed the eShell was flown back to the KTM offices and it arrived after a couple days. In a couple of days they retrieved it. After being active for 3 months, the eShell returned with 84% battery life!. Their eShell was already ready for another voyage!.
